As the founder and publisher of CFBPredictions has gone from knowing absolutely nothing about the internet when the site started up to delving into the world of web development as a hobby, CFBPredictions has expanded its features beyond the prediction contests. Beginning in 2009, the site added a Membership Rewards virtual currency system called CFBPoints and a community feature called the Fanbase. The Fanbase gave predictors their own profile, a trophy case which holds virtual hardware won from contests and a personal activity feed which keeps track of CFBPoints that are earned from site actions and contest participation. The Fanbase also allows for fans to interact through friendships, wall posts, personal messaging, photos, groups, videos and events.
For more details on CFBPoints and how they tie into prediction contests and the Fanbase, please visit the CFBPoints Rules page.
When not competing in prediction contests, the forums are a great place to interact, debate and share your passion for college sports with other fans. They recently received a clean makeover to match the rest of the site and will soon integrate with the Fanbase. The software used for the forums is phpBB3 and has its own stand-alone database for optimal performance.
The CFBlog is where you will find blog posts previewing and recapping prediction contests and recognizing contest winners along with other tidbits related to prediction contests and the site in general.
This is the area where trophies, winners and records from past contests are on display. In addition, a list of all available trophies and medals and which members hold them can be viewed.
It's a lot easier to predict games with current information about teams and players so a news section was added to assist predictors in knowing up to date information that could affect the outcome of games. The Headlines for Predictors section collects information that predictors might benefit from knowing from sources around the internet. In addition, a predictions section was added which displays expert human and computer score predictions for upcoming games and conference standings from around the internet and other mediums. This section is useful for both contestants and visitors looking for other opinions on how games will play out in terms of the score without all the extra analysis. Links to the source pages are always placed so users can view full analysis of predictions if available.
